First we shall discuss Google AdWords with negative keywords. Google AdWords is a service where you can, as a website owner wanting targeted visitors to your site, to bid on certain high popularity keywords or key phrases to get visitors to your site. This marketing technique entails paying Google a certain predefined sum of money typically 25 cents every time someone clicks on the keyword you choose to have a visitor directed to your site.
Let us take for example the keywords 'sports shoes' If you agree or bid to pay Google 25 cents every time someone clicks on the word 'sports shoes' then, for the time that no one bids higher than you, all visitors clicking on the words sports shoes on Google AdSense sites will be directed to your site. This very same policy is applied by yahoo search marketing.
Now bidding on AdWords and yahoo Search marketing is all very well, but where does negative keywords come in? Negative keywords are those keywords that you pay Google to exclude your site in the search results if they are included in any search query. Let us take another example. If we use negative keywords such as 'free samples' along with our marketing technique using Google AdWords or yahoo Search Marketing then if anyone types in a phrase relating to Sports shoes but includes the words 'free' and 'samples' is their search phrase your site will not turn up in the search results.
This is because the person is obviously looking for free shoes or samples and you don't want this visitor to use up your clicks. This is the other way to get only targeted traffic to your site.
